Market commentary
The S&P/ASX 200 Accumulation Index was down 3.8 per cent over the month, as global markets reacted negatively to a potential trade war,
after the US president announced he will impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminium. In retaliation, China reacted with the announcement
of its own set of tariffs on US goods which further heightened market unease.
The banking sector, which was down 6.3 per cent over the month, underperformed the broader market as the banking Royal Commission
began in March. The telecommunications sector was also down 6.1 per cent, over the month, as the competitive landscape remains intense
around mobile and with the further implementation of the NBN.
On a relative basis, the best performing sectors were utilities (-0.8 per cent) and industrials (-1.1 per cent).
