MARKET RELEASE

Parliamentary committee recommends changes to proposed

legislation for post-2020 telecommunications industry

Parliament’s Economic Development, Science and Innovation Select Committee has

published today its report on the Telecommunications (New Regulatory Framework) Bill,

which outlines telecommunications industry regulatory settings from 2020 onwards.

The select committee’s report which includes details of recommended changes can be

found at: https://www.parliament.nz/resource/en-

NZ/SCR_78114/27b1a2785779f4b615698ec423e89d260de14f1b

Spark will be reviewing the report in depth, but our initial assessment is that we do not

expect any of these recommended changes to have a significant effect on Spark’s

operations. In its recommended changes, the select committee has addressed a number

of the concerns Spark raised over the draft bill.

The Bill was introduced to Parliament during 2017 and has been considered by the

select committee over recent months. Spark was among the parties who made

submissions to the select committee.
