BLIS announces new board member
Blis Technologies Limited (NZX: BLT) advises the appointment of Mr Geoff Plunket as an
independent director of the company with effect from 4 May 2018. Current Director, and
Chairman of the Audit Committee, Mr Alan McKenzie, has advised that, because of other
increasing professional commitments he would not be seeking re-election at the annual
shareholders meeting this year. Mr McKenzie has provided the board with specialist
accounting and financial capability since joining the board six years ago.
Mr Plunket is the former CEO of Port Otago, a Chartered Accountant and a member of the
Institute of Directors. Geoff will bring a wealth of governance knowledge to the board.
The board has determined that Mr Plunket will be an independent director. With the support
of the current Board, Mr Plunket will formally offer himself for election as director at the next
annual shareholders' meeting in July 2018.
The new appointment is the result of a dedicated succession plan put in place by the BLIS
board. Chairman Tony Offen said that the board were conscious of the need to have a broad
range of expertise and a robust succession plan to ensure variety when members chose not
to stand for re-election.
“Having a rolling succession plan for the board provides us with the opportunity to search for
new capability. It also allows us to identify gaps and broaden the expertise of the board,
ensuring we have a wide range of skills”, says Mr Offen.
In addition to Mr Plunket’s appointment, BLIS will be looking for another board member to
replace Dr Peter Fennessy who has also indicated he will not be standing for re-election this
year. Dr Fennessy has been a director since 2000 and was Chairman for 11 years (retiring as
Chair in July 2017).
BLIS are the developers of the world’s first advanced oral probiotics. The BLIS range includes
products that support ear, nose and throat health. BLIS probiotics were discovered by
Professor John Tagg while working as a researcher at the University of Otago Microbiology
Department.
