NZX board announces director appointment


The NZX board announces the appointment of John McMahon as a director.


NZX Chair James Miller commented: “John brings to NZX’s board composition strengthened

skills in technology, data, international strategy and connectivity. This is in addition to his

extensive experience across New Zealand and Australia’s capital markets. John also brings a

laser focus on shareholder wealth creation and we are delighted to have him join our board of

directors.”


“Based in Sydney, John has a strong background in governance, specifically working with small

to medium sized listed companies in the technology sector. John’s experience in this space will

be extremely valuable as we continue to execute on the exchange’s core markets strategy, and

await the recommendations from Capital Markets 2029.”


In addition to the above, John has an equity and investment background. He established Auro

Investment Management in 2010, prior to which he spent three years as Managing Director of

ASB Securities. He is currently a non-executive director and Chair of NZX-listed Solution

Dynamics Limited, and a non-executive director and acting Chair of NZX-listed Wellington Drive

Technologies Limited.


John McMahon commented: “NZX fulfils an essential role in New Zealand’s capital markets

infrastructure. I am pleased to have the opportunity to help shape the future growth and

direction of the company.”


John’s appointment is effective, Wednesday 26 June 2019.


As required by listing rule 2.6.2 the board has determined that John is an independent director.


About John McMahon

John has extensive industry experience in the technology sector, company turnaround and

transformation, and entrepreneurial small cap governance. He has spent over twenty years in

the Australasian equity markets, predominantly as an equity analyst (covering a range of

industries including telecommunications, media, gaming, transport, industrials), and more

recently he was Head of the Equity Desk at ABN AMRO. In wholesale equities, John has

worked for CS Boston, BZW, Morgan Stanley, ABN AMRO, and Walker Capital, was Managing

Director of ASB Securities for three years. He now manages his own investment portfolio via

Sydney-based Auro Investment Management. He has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), an

MBA and is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charterholder.
