Market commentary
The S&P/ASX 200 Accumulation Index was again strong through the month of June following the uplift in May. The Reserve Bank of Australia
cut rates by 25bps to a record low 1.25% which helped boost the market. Upward momentum was also assisted by positive expectations
of a trade resolution to come out of the G20 in Japan toward the end of June. The Index was up 3.7% for the month and 11.6% over the year
to 30 June 2019.
All major sectors of the market produced positive returns as investors responded to these further falls in interest rates. The resources sector
was very strong and was up 6.4% over the month. The Real Estate Trust sector was up 4.2% as interest rate cuts made the relative yield on
this sector more attractive.
The only sectors which were relatively weak over the month were Consumer Discretionary, down 1.5% and Information Technology, up 1.0%
(although this sector is up 19.4% for the year to June).
