This monthly traffic update from Auckland International Airport Limited (AIAL) is generated with assistance and data from Statistics New Zealand, the New Zealand Customs Service, Airways New Zealand, Immigration New Zealand, Queenstown
Airport Corporation and AIAL. International and Domestic passenger movements are actual. A refinement in transit reporting from Immigration New Zealand in June 2018 has resulted in Auckland Airport restating Transit passenger numbers

May 2019 Monthly traffic update

Auckland Airport experienced total passenger growth of 1.7% in May 2019. International passengers (excl. Transits) were up 0.9%, while
domestic passengers grew by 3.3% compared to May 2018. Financial year to date to the end of May, International passengers (excl.
Transits) were up 3.1% and domestic passengers were up 3.6% versus prior year.


Key Points:
• Hong Kong Airlines withdrew Auckland-Hong Kong services effective from 22 May 2019. This contributed to Chinese visitor arrivals for the month
being down 13.7% vs prior year.
• Transit passengers were down 5.9% compared to May 2018, primarily driven by more passengers choosing to travel on direct services particularly
between Australia and the Americas.
• Domestic passenger growth was predominantly driven by additional capacity, particularly on the Auckland-Queenstown route (+10,000 seats).
