Insurance Update - New Zealand International Convention Centre
SkyCity Entertainment Group Limited (SKC.NZX/SKC.AX) (“SkyCity”) confirms that, in
respect of the fire that broke out at the New Zealand International Convention Centre
(“NZICC”) in Auckland on 22 October 2019, SkyCity’s insurers have now confirmed that
SkyCity’s contract works insurance policy will respond in relation to damage to the NZICC
and Horizon Hotel (which is also under construction and located adjacent to the NZICC).
In addition, SkyCity’s third party liability insurance policy will respond where legal liability
exists and cases are being reviewed on a claim-by-claim basis.
The Fletcher Construction Company Limited (“Fletcher Construction”) is an insured party
under both SkyCity’s contract works insurance policy and third party liability insurance
policy.
The NZICC site was handed back to Fletcher Construction, the main contractor for the
NZICC and Horizon Hotel, on 1 November 2019. Access remains restricted as safety and
structural assessments and investigations into the cause of the fire are completed.
Once the extent of the damage to the NZICC and Horizon Hotel is known, SkyCity will, in
consultation with Fletcher Construction, be able to determine the impact on the project
delivery timeline. Both SkyCity and Fletcher Construction remain committed to
completing the NZICC to the standard agreed with the New Zealand Government.
