Spark New Zealand announces changes to the Spark Board
The Spark New Zealand Board announced today it has appointed David Havercroft as a
non-independent, non-executive director to the Board. David’s appointment will take effect
from 1 October 2021.
David’s career in the technology industry has spanned more than 35 years. Having worked
as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer at Spark New Zealand until 2017,
he has also held executive and management positions in IBM Asia Pacific, Cable & Wireless
and BT. David is currently a director on Connect 8, Southern Cross Cables, KiwiWealth, and
was formerly a director of Kordia.
Spark New Zealand Chair, Justine Smyth, says, "We are delighted to have someone of
David’s calibre joining our board. His skills and significant industry knowledge and
experience will be vital as Spark continues to adapt and grow in today's uncertain context,
where digital connectivity has become more important than ever.”
David says, “The telecommunications and technology industries are undergoing rapid
transformation – a trend only exacerbated by Covid-19 and the need to adapt to a low-
carbon future. This industry is pivotal to New Zealand’s future success, and I am honoured
to have the opportunity to support Spark, the largest telecommunications and digital services
provider in the country, as it accelerates into an increasingly digital future and plays its part
in helping New Zealand transform.”
In accordance with Spark’s constitution, David will retire and offer himself for re -election at
the Annual Meeting of Shareholders in November 2021.
The Board also announced that Pip Greenwood has decided not to seek re-election at
Spark’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders in November 2021 after taking on the role of Chair
at Westpac New Zealand from 1 October 2021. The Spark Board thanks Pip for her valuable
contribution over the past three years.
The Spark Board has an ongoing succession programme and will continue working to
consider the relevant skills and experience required to support the business in delivering on
its 3-year strategy to 2023.
