Director changes at Refining NZ
Refining NZ announces the appointment by the Board of John Bourke as a Director of the Company,
effective 10 September 2021.
John is currently Operations Manager at ExxonMobil’s Altona Refinery in Victoria, Australia.
John has over 15 years’ experience in Oil and Gas, across two upstream sites and three refineries.
He has worked in various operational roles at ExxonMobil and is currently leading the Altona
Refinery Operations Department through their conversion to terminal operations.
John brings extensive industry knowledge and experience to the Refining NZ board including
experience addressing structural, organisational and cultural change while maintaining safe and
effective operations in the refinery process. John holds Bachelor of Engineering (Materials) and
Bachelor of Commerce (Business Management) degrees.
John was nominated by Mobil Oil New Zealand Limited on invitation by the Refining NZ Board as a
replacement for Riccardo Cavallo, who is resigning as a director as previously announced and with
effect on 27 August 2021.
Chairman Simon Allen said “We are delighted to have someone with John’s industry knowledge and
strategic experience join our Board, and his experience leading through change will be of great
benefit as we look to the future and our own proposed transition at Marsden Point. John has
worked within refinery operations throughout his career, and will bring his technical skills and
institutional knowledge to the Board as we look to a very different future for Refining NZ.”
John commented, “I am excited to be joining the Refining NZ Board at a time of great change for the
company, as the energy sector looks to respond to the challenges and opportunities of our operating
environment locally, and globally. With the shift to Channel Infrastructure, we have a real
opportunity to build a company that delivers value to shareholders, while playing a key role in
meeting the energy needs of New Zealanders now and into the future.”
The Board has determined that John will not be an Independent Director for the purposes of the NZX
Listing Rules, as he is a senior employee within the ExxonMobil group of companies.
As a director appointed by the Board, John will be subject to re-election at the next Annual Meeting
of Refining NZ shareholders.
