Localised fire at Tararua 3 wind farm
6 October 2021 – This afternoon, Mercury was notified by Vestas, the operator of its Tararua Wind Farm 3 near
Palmerston North, of smoke coming from one of the Tararua wind turbines. Mercury understands this resulted from
a localised fire on the turbine. Vestas has contacted emergency services who attended the incident. Vestas
confirmed that no employees were near the turbine at the time of the incident and there are no reported injuries.
Site personnel have temporarily paused the wind turbines in that area of the wind farm and commenced an incident
investigation.
A string of five turbines has been taken out of service as a result of the incident. Although this is an early
assessment, it is likely that this string will be out of service for several weeks.
Mercury’s assessment is that this will not have a material impact on revenue.
