Update regarding Potline 4
28 October 2021
Meridian Energy Limited (Meridian) and New Zealand Aluminium Smelters Limited (NZAS) are
discussing a possible further suspension of the Potline 4 contract through to 31 January
2022. Currently the contract remains suspended until 31 October 2021. A further announcement will
be made when and if a further suspension is agreed.
The Potline 4 contract is a separate contract to the main electricity agreement between Meridian and
NZAS. It was signed in May 2018 and runs until 31 December 2022. In April 2020, NZAS exercised its
right to suspend the contract and reduce the contract quantity to zero. This suspension period was
extended on 30 September 2020 and 1 June 2021 and is currently due to end on 31 October 2021 –
