Vodafone TV closure: update
Sky New Zealand acknowledges the news from Vodafone New Zealand today that the Vodafone TV
service (VTV) will close in September 2022, with the accounts of customers who watch Sky on the
VTV box being transferred to Sky from March 2022.
Sky CEO Sophie Moloney says: “Our goal at Sky is to connect our customers with great sport and
entertainment content in ways that work for them, right across the country. We have been pleased
to partner with Vodafone to deliver Sky’s great content to customers through the VTV box, and we
are now delighted to directly offer them the full suite of Sky products to choose from, including the
new internet-connected Sky Box that we are delivering in the middle of 2022. Sky’s new box is a key
part of our strategy to be the preferred content aggregator in the NZ market, with Sky channels and
favourite apps all in one place, accessed via one remote.”
The Vodafone and Sky teams are working on the migration of VTV customer accounts to Sky,
commencing early 2022. VTV customers will be able to continue to watch Sky on their existing VTV
box while the migration to Sky services is undertaken.
VTV customers are currently included in Sky’s streaming subscription numbers (noted as
retransmission customers). Revenue from retransmission subscriptions is recognised on a net basis
after commission, and is included in Sky’s streaming revenue numbers (reported within other
subscription revenue).
Once migration is complete, Sky intends to recognise former retransmission subscriptions in its Sky
Box customer and revenue numbers. More details will be provided when Sky reports its FY22
results.
