Meridian notes NZAS statement on Tiwai Point smelter

Meridian Energy notes the statement from New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelter (NZAS
1
), that the
owners of the Tiwai Point smelter have begun exploring potential pathways with electricity
generators for the smelter’s future, beyond the end of the current contract in December 2024.
Meridian will engage with NZAS as part of its process and expects this will include contract
negotiations.

NZAS is a joint venture between Rio Tinto (79.36%) and Sumitomo Chemical Company Limited
