NZX & ASX RELEASE

3 November 2022

Andrea Scown to join Summerset as Future Director

Summerset Group Holdings is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrea Scown as a

future director to its Board of Directors.

Andrea joins Summerset as a future director under the Institute of Directors’ (IoD) Future

Directors programme which aims to develop New Zealand’s next generation of directors and

provide experience in large companies around the country.

Summerset’s Board Chair Mark Verbiest said Andrea would make a valuable contribution as

an observer to the Summerset Board. “Future Directors has been running for a number of

years and many members of our board have seen the benefits for both the individual and the

companies involved.

“Andrea is CEO of Mitre 10, an enormously successful retail company with renowned

customer experience. We believe we can provide her with a valuable insight into governance

of a large and successful listed company but also that she will provide great insight to

Summerset into the New Zealand consumer and the construction sectors,” he said.

“Andrea’s appointment will benefit us both, we look forward to having her perspective on

many of the opportunities and challenges we face as a business.”

Of her appointment, Andrea Scown said she had been looking for her first external

governance experience and the Future Directors programme offered excellent opportunities.

“Past and present Future Directors have spoken highly of the opportunities and personal

development the programme provides.

“I want to develop my governance skills and experience within a business that operates at

scale and Summerset, one of New Zealand’s largest builders and retirement village

operators, felt like the perfect opportunity.

“Also, I believe Mitre 10 and Summerset share very similar values. At Mitre 10 our vision is

to help Kiwis love where they live, work and play while Summerset’s is to bring the best of

life to their residents. I’m pleased to be observing a Board with a similar philosophy and

commitment to its customers as my own business has.

“I look forward to working with Mark and his very strong Board to learn from them and

contribute to the continued success of this great Kiwi business. Summerset is a significant

property and construction business which is steadily expanding into Australia, I’m joining at a

very exciting time for the company.”

Andrea’s first Board meeting will be 7 November and she will join the Board as an observer

for one year to start with. Future Directors fully participate in all Board matters but do not

have voting or decision rights.
