Chorus announces Board changes
Neal Barclay joins Chorus Board
Chorus has today announced that Neal Barclay will join the Chorus board from 26 August
2024. Neal has had extensive experience within the energy and telecommunications sectors
and has held the role of Chief Executive of Meridian Energy since early 2018. Neal has held
a number of executive roles at Meridian Energy since 2008 and prior to that was at Telecom
New Zealand (now Spark) in senior finance leadership roles.
Chorus Chairman Mark Cross said Neal brings customer focus, telecom industry knowledge,
CEO experience and a deep understanding of listed regulated infrastructure businesses. “The
Chorus Board warmly welcomes Neal and believes his experience will be very relevant to
helping Chorus achieve its ambitions as it evolves into an all-fibre digital infrastructure
business. Neal’s appointment is part of our ongoing succession process with the retirement
of Murray Jordan” he said.
The Chorus Board has determined that Neal will be an independent director and have
appointed him to the Audit and Risk Management Committee. In accordance with NZX
requirements Neal will stand for election at Chorus’ upcoming Annual Shareholders Meeting.
“Chorus is a great company and has built a fibre network for Aotearoa that is world class,
and critical to the ongoing prosperity of all Kiwis. I am thrilled to be able to join the Board for
this next stage of Chorus’ evolution” said Neal.
Murray Jordan to stand down
Murray Jordan has advised that he will resign from the Chorus Board effective from 30
September 2024 at the end of his nine year tenure. Murray joined the Chorus Board in 2015
and has provided a huge contribution to Chorus governance, particularly with his leadership
of the People, Performance and Culture Committee during periods of significant change.
Mark Cross thanked Murray for his efforts. “Murray steps down with the respect and best
wishes of the Chorus Board for his wise counsel, strategic insights and care for the people of
Chorus over his 9 years on the board.”
