from 44k TEU in the same period a year ago.
Underlying full, or “cargo laden”, container volumes (i.e. excluding empties and other container
movements) increased 1.4% and total empty and other container movement volumes increased 1.8%.
Dry export cargo increased by 5.9% to 13k TEU from 12k TEU in the same period a year ago. This is
mainly due to higher timber exports.
Reefer export cargo increased by 4.9% when compared with the same period a year ago.
Containerised imports increased by 17.5% to 24k TEU from 20k TEU. The increase was driven by empty
container imports increasing 32.6% to 17k TEU.
Other container movements, including transhipped containers and DLRs, decreased to 2k TEU from 5k
TEU due to lower container repositioning activity compared to the first quarter of the prior year.
Container vessel calls increased to 64 ships from 61 ships in the prior year.
Bulk Cargo
Total Bulk Cargo volume of 0.94 million tonnes increased 2.6% compared to the same period a year ago.
Log exports increased 1.9% to 0.74 million tonnes.
Other bulk exports increased 24k tonnes, or 152%, to 39k tonnes due to higher coastal fertiliser
movements.
Bulk cargo imports decreased by 14k tonnes, or 8%, to 159k tonnes as increased fertiliser partially
offset decreased oil products imports.
Charter vessel calls increased to 66 from 63 in the same quarter a year ago.
Cruise Services
Cruise vessel calls during the first quarter were 15, down from 24 in the prior year. Average cruise vessel
size and passengers per vessel increased by between 15% and 20% compared to the same period a year
ago.
