Frequently asked questions

What is the NZ Stewardship Code?

The Stewardship Code Aotearoa New Zealand (launched Dec 2022) is a voluntary investor governance framework maintained by the Sustainable Finance Coalition NZ. Around 20 institutional investors are current signatories, committing to transparent active ownership practices including annual stewardship reporting on a "comply or explain" basis.

Does NZXplorer's checklist equal NZ Stewardship Code compliance?

No. NZXplorer assesses reports against our internal 12-dimension Stewardship Checklist, which is informed by the UK Stewardship Code 2020 structure and extended with NZ-specific signals. The real NZ Stewardship Code Aotearoa has 9 principles with a different scope. Signatories remain responsible for their own "comply or explain" reporting; NZXplorer's checklist is intended as a data scaffold, not a compliance determination.

What data powers the stewardship reports?

Reports draw from NZXplorer's structured NZX data: AGM resolutions with vote data, GRS governance scores, ESG metrics (emissions, diversity, reporting frameworks), insider trading records, board changes, capital raises, credit ratings, and announcement filings.

Can I use my own voting policy?

Yes. Choose from 8 built-in presets (including ISS NZ Benchmark, NZ Super Fund, Conservative, and Progressive policies) or configure your own custom policy with 21 adjustable thresholds. Custom policies can be saved and reused.

How does policy compliance checking work?

The engine runs your voting policy against every resolution in the reporting period. If you provide your actual voting record (CSV upload), it compares your votes to what the policy recommends and flags each deviation. Policy alignment is reported overall and by resolution category.

Is this a substitute for ISS or Glass Lewis?

NZXplorer is designed to complement global proxy advisors with NZ-specific governance context (GRS scores, board composition analysis, NZ-focused proxy rules). For NZX-only portfolios it can be used as a standalone source; fund managers with broader mandates typically keep a global advisor alongside.

What format are reports delivered in?

Reports are available as structured JSON (via API), print-optimised HTML/PDF, and web preview. The PDF is intended for internal review and client-facing publication and includes the full report sections, charts, tables, and FMA-compliant disclaimers.
