Attached is Meridian Energy Limited's monthly operating report for the month of May 2019.

Highlights this month include:

▪ In the month to 13 June 2019, national hydro storage increased from 107% to 122% of historical average

▪ South Island storage sat at 129% of average and North Island storage at 78% of average on 13 June

2019

▪ Meridian’s May 2019 monthly total inflows were 165% of historical average

▪ Meridian’s Waitaki catchment storage at the end of May 2019 was 126% of historical average

▪ Storage in Meridian’s Waiau catchment was above average at the end of May 2019

▪ National electricity demand in May 2019 was 2.0% lower than the same month last year

▪ Meridian made calls on load under the Genesis Swaption in May and early June 2019

▪ May 2019 was the third warmest May on record with warmer than average conditions across the whole

country. Rainfall was well above average in the western and lower South Island and below average for

much of the North Island

▪ New Zealand Aluminium Smelter's load during May 2019 was below the contract level of 622MW

▪ Meridian’s retail sales volumes in May 2019 were 8.5% higher than May 2018

year

record with warmer than average

conditions across the whole country.

Rainfall was well above average in the

western and lower South Island and below

average for much of the North Island

higher than the preceding 12 months

▪New Zealand Aluminium Smelter's load

during May 2019 was below the contract

May 2019 and have risen 3.7% since June

2018

▪Retail sales volumes in May 2019 were

8.5% higher than May 2018

▪Compared to May 2018, residential/SMB

sales volumes decreased by 0.6% and

corporate sales volumes increased by

24.0%

▪To date this financial year, retail sales

volumes are 3.9% higher than same

period last year

▪This reflects a 2.2% increase in

residential/SMB sales volumes and a 6.9%

increase in corporate sales volumes

hydro generation and lower wind

generation

▪The average price Meridian received for its

generation in May 2019 was 71.9% higher

than the same month last year

▪The average price Meridian paid to supply

contracted sales in May 2019 was 76.6%

higher than the same month last year

▪To date this financial year, the average

price Meridian received for its generation

is 53.5% higher than the same period last

year and the average price paid to supply

contracted sales is 55.6% higher
