Meridian appoints new (Acting) General Manager Generation

Meridian Energy has appointed Guy Waipara into a newly created position of General Manager
Development, effective 1 January 2021. Guy Waipara’s role will be to take the lead on the
transformational aspects of Meridian’s strategy to utilise renewable electricity to decarbonise the
electricity sector and the wider economy.
As a result, Mat Bayliss and Richard Griffiths have been appointed to cover the role of (Acting) General
Manager Generation sharing a 12-month term, each taking the lead for six-months respectively.
Meridian’s Chief Executive Neal Barclay says both Mat Bayliss and Richard Griffiths have worked for
Meridian independently for decades and bring a wealth of asset management expertise and leadership
to the executive team. Mat will take the lead for the first six months and Richard will take the second
half of the 12-month term.
“I am certain both Mat and Richard will bring the leadership and experience we need. Their
appointments as guardians of our assets enable us to increase our focus on our transformational goals
with confidence,” adds Barclay.
