Changes to Mercury’s executive structure

21 January 2021 – Mercury Chief Executive Vince Hawksworth has announced changes to his executive

structure as the renewable electricity generator and electricity retailer looks to the future.

Mercury will realign its business with seven executive roles reporting to the Chief Executive: three current roles of

Chief Financial Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, and General Manager People and Performance; and newly created

roles of General Manager Generation, General Manager Portfolio, General Manager Sustainability and General

Manager Customer.

Disestablished executive roles are: General Manager Retail and Digital, General Manager Hydro/Wholesale,

General Manager Geothermal & Safety, and General Manager Corporate Affairs.

Confirmed in executive roles are Chief Financial Officer William Meek; Chief Marketing Officer Julia Jack; General

Manager People and Performance Marlene Strawson; and current General Manager Hydro/Wholesale, Phil

Gibson, who has been appointed General Manager Portfolio.

The General Manager Customer, General Manager Generation and General Manager Sustainability roles are

subject to a recruitment process.

The new structure will come into effect on 2 February 2021.

Mr Hawksworth, who joined Mercury during the first COVID lockdown last March, says he’s spent time getting to

know Mercury and working with the executive team to plan for the next phase of the business’s evolution.

“The time is now right to implement some changes, with the support of the team, focused on ensuring Mercury’s

continued success and to position us for the future.

“I am strongly committed to this change and believe this is the right thing for Mercury’s future, our owners, partners

and customers,” Mr Hawksworth says.

As part of consultation on the new structure, General Manager Retail & Digital Kevin Angland, General Manager

Geothermal & Safety Nick Clarke, and General Manager Corporate Affairs Tony Nagel, have chosen to leave

Mercury after assisting with transition planning.
