NEWS RELEASE

Mercury announces CFO appointment

21 January 2025 – Mercury has appointed Richard Hopkins as its Chief Financial Officer, effective 14 April 2025.

Richard brings over 25 years’ local and international experience across the finance sector and primary industries, including

more than a decade in CFO roles for major New Zealand companies.

An experienced executive, Richard has deep expertise in corporate finance, M&A, business transformation and strategy

development.

Chief Executive Stew Hamilton says, “I’m delighted to be welcoming someone of Richard’s calibre to our leadership team.

Along with strong financial experience, he brings proven success in shaping strategy and delivering substantial value for

large, complex organisations.”

“This experience, together with his track record developing strong, high performing teams, make him a great addition to our

business as we continue to position ourselves for further growth.”

Richard is currently the CFO of USX-listed Zespri International Ltd where he leads a large global team. There, he is

responsible for the company’s finance, tax and treasury, legal, company secretary, risk and assurance, procurement,

corporate development and integrated business planning functions.

That followed nearly a decade at Ballance Agri-Nutrients where he held a broad range of roles and responsibilities across

finance, sales, growth and digital transformation, including six years as CFO.

Richard originally comes from a banking background. This has included roles at investment banks HSBC and Credit Suisse

in the UK, where he specialised in power and utility sector transactions; and at Westpac in New Zealand, where he was a

director in their Corporate Finance team.

Mercury will work through a comprehensive handover with our current CFO, William Meek, who leaves Mercury at the end of

March.
