These companies are missing total shareholder counts. Annual report PDFs are either not in the announcements database, truncated before the statutory shareholder section, or filed as bond/debt issuers without equity shareholder data.
Common reasons for gaps: offshore-listed investment trusts (FCT, BIT, HFL, TEM), bond-only issuers (CNU), PDF text extraction truncation (#1914), or newly listed companies without a full annual report cycle.
Total shareholdersare extracted from the statutory “Spread of Shareholders” or “Analysis of Shareholder” section of annual reports, as required under NZX Listing Rules. Extraction uses regex pattern matching on PDF text, with Claude Haiku AI fallback for complex formats.
Top 20 shareholders data comes from the annual report top-20 register disclosure. Top 5% and Top 20% represent the aggregate holding of the 5 and 20 largest shareholders respectively.
HHI (Herfindahl-Hirschman Index) measures ownership concentration among the top 20 holders. Higher values indicate more concentrated ownership. Above 2,500 is considered highly concentrated.
Director counts reflect current board members (where resignation_date is null). Independence is based on the NZX-disclosed independence status.
