The annual reports behind each year's AI-mention count, linked to the original NZX announcement where available.
We scan the full text of NZX company announcements classified as annual reports. Each filing year counts reports whose text contains: AI mention — the phrase "artificial intelligence"; generative AI / LLM— "large language model", "generative AI", "generative artificial intelligence", or "ChatGPT"; AI + cyber— both "artificial intelligence" and "cyber" in the same report, a co-occurrence proxy for AI discussed alongside cyber risk. Numerator and denominator both count only reports with extracted text, so shares are like-for-like.
The approach mirrors the disclosure-trend methodology applied to UK listed companies by the Risk Observatory, applied here to the NZX corpus. Data snapshot: 2026-07-02; the latest year is a partial filing year.
Limitations:keyword matching captures mentions in any context, including passing references, and undercounts reports that only use the abbreviation "AI". The NZX universe is small (roughly 70–90 annual reports per year), so single-digit count changes move the percentages — treat year-on-year shifts as indicative rather than precise. A mention suggests the topic is discussed in the filing; it does not indicate the company faces, or has mitigated, any specific risk.
