What buzzwords are NZX companies using — and when did they start?

Methodology

This analysis scans the full extracted text of every NZX company announcement PDF for specific keyword patterns. Each term is matched using multiple regex patterns to capture variations (e.g. “AI” also matches “artificial intelligence” and “machine learning”).

Adoption % = percentage of active NZX companies (with at least one announcement that year) that mentioned the term at least once.Mentions = total pattern matches across all announcements for that company-year.

Mechanical announcement types (share issues, dividends, key dates) are excluded. Only announcements with extracted PDF text are included. This is a keyword frequency analysis, not a semantic assessment — a company mentioning “climate risk” once in passing is counted the same as one with a dedicated climate strategy section.
